frequently asked questions

Why would a baby or child need to see a chiropractor?

It is part of our mission to help pregnant women achieve the best birth outcomes because we know much it can influence postpartum and infant health. The lasting effects birth has on the health of infants and children is not something that is addressed in conventional healthcare. Here is a list of some things that can cause trauma during birth:

  • Very long labor

  • Very short labor

  • The use of Pitocin

  • Pain medications

  • Restricted maternal birthing positions

  • Pulling or twisting on the baby’s head to help deliver their body

  • Forceps or vacuum extraction

  • Cesarean

When this trauma is left uncorrected it can be enough stress to kick their nervous system into fight-or-flight mode, causing many health challenges that could have been prevented. Nursing difficulties, sleep disturbances, inability to be soothed, colic, constipation, and reflux are examples and signs of spinal nerve stress in infants.

Parents are often told that their baby will grow out of these types of symptoms, but through a neurological chiropractic lens we have found that they grow into other issues. This looks like a toddler with chronic ear infections and allergies; kids with anxiety, ADHD, and sensory challenges.

We know we can make the biggest change and lasting impact with prenatal and newborn chiropractic care, but it is never too late to get your child checked. We have the technology to measure the amount of stress on their nervous system to know how much care they will need to undo months or years of spinal nerve stress.

Why should I go to a chiropractor during pregnancy?

Most people think of prenatal chiropractic when they are experiencing back pain, sciatica, round ligament pain, or other pregnancy-related symptoms. While we can certainly help get relief from those discomforts, we are focused on preparing your body for the best birth outcomes. There are physical, emotional, hormonal, and spiritual challenges all along the way. Chiropractic care helps facilitate the process, making it less stressful for you and your baby from pre-conception through postpartum. Research shows that prenatal chiropractic care contributes to a more straightforward labor and birth with less pain and trauma for mom and baby.

It is important to find a chiropractor that is certified in Webster Technique from the ICPA. This technique addresses pelvic and ligamentous imbalances during pregnancy. Restoring nervous system balance and reducing tension on the uterus will support the needs of your baby, reduce discomfort, and prepare you for labor and delivery.

Do you accept my insurance?

This is a common question we get and we understand why you are asking. In short, we are a direct pay office and all of our practice members pay at the time of service or pre-pay on one of our membership plans. We are not in network with any insurance companies because we cannot deliver our standard of care when a third-party is involved, telling us what we can and cannot do for our practice members. Insurance companies are designed for short-term symptom relief which often relies on drugs and surgery, not prevention and wellness.

We are able to keep our prices affordable by saving on the added cost of billing and not having to inflate prices due to reimbursement percentages. Our wellness and family plans are often times lower than most co-pays (a cost you will have when working with an in-network provider). We encourage using HSA and FSA because those are set up for preventative and wellness services. We always welcome open and honest conversations about finances to accommodate any budget.
